Abstract:
[Abstract] Objective To explore the application value of metagenomic next-generation sequencing(mNGS) in detection of pathogens in patients with severe pneumonia. Methods Twenty-six patients with severe pneumonia were enrolled from July 2018 to May 2019. The diagnostic efficacies of the mNGS and the traditional detection method on the pathogenic bacteria were compared, and the impact of antibiotic exposure on the detection rate was evaluated. Results The positive rate of pathogenic bacteria detected by mNGS(92.3%) was significantly higher than that detected by the traditional culture method(42.3%)(P<0.05). Under the premise of using antibiotics, the positive rate of pathogenic bacteria detected by mNGS(91.3%) was significantly higher than that detected by the traditional method(43.5%)(P<0.05). Conclusion mNGS has a high sensitivity to the identification of pathogenic bacteria, and the use of antibiotics has little effect on the detection results of mNGS, which has an important clinical application value for the diagnosis and treatment of infected patients.
