Abstract:
[Abstract] Objective To observe the recovery of the makers of bone metabolism and height in children with nephrotic syndrome(NS) after glucocorticoid withdrawal, and to provide the guidance for clinical preventive medications. Methods The levels of serum osteoprotegerin(OPG) and serum N-terminal midfragment of osteocalcin( N-MID osteocalcin) were measured in 27 healthy children(the control group) and in 27 children with NS(the NS group) after the withdrawal of glucocorticoid therapy for one year, and the height and height standard different scores(HtSDS) were recorded in both of the two groups. Results There were no significant differences between the NS group and the control group in the levels of serum OPG[(432±52)ng/L vs (434±63 ng/L)], N-MID osteocalcin[(76±27)ng/ml vs (68±19)ng/ml] and HtSDS[(-0.602±1.381) vs (-0.136±1.601)](P>0.05).Conclusion The makers of bone metabolism and height levels in children with NS after the withdrawal of glucocorticoid therapy for one year may recover to those in normal children.
