Abstract:
[Abstract] Objective To investigate the scan skills and diagnostic methods in assessment of perforating veins of lower extremity with varicosity using color Doppler ultrasound(CDU). Methods Thirty-three patients with varicosity of lower extremity were routinely detected by Logiq 700 ultrasound system with the 5~10MHz linear transducer before operation. The perforating veins were completely evaluated, including location, extension, size and valvula function. Results One hundred and fifty-one incompetent perforating veins were found in 33 patients. Most of the perforating veins were located in calf (82%) and only 18% in thigh. All of the incompetent perforating veins found in CDU were confirmed in operation. Compared with the operation, 83% perforating veins were demonstrated by CDU.Conclusion CDU can demonstrated most of incompetent perforating veins of lower extremity with varicosity. It is a simple and non-invasive technique for accurate diagnosis of incompetent perforating veins of lower extremity with varicosity.
