Abstract:
[Abstract] Objective To explore the awareness of palliative care among undergraduate medical students. Methods We developed a cross-sectional study in Wenzhou Medical University, using a self-completion questionnaire. This questionnaire included a knowledge part and an attitude part. 345 students were enrolled in this survey. Results Higher knowledge scores were associated with being female(P=0.000), being in the third year of study(P=0.009) and having experience of clinical practice(P=0.000). The undergraduate medical students who were in the third year of study, and had experience of clinical practice and higher knowledge scores reported that they had more positive attitudes towards palliative care. Conclusion Undergraduate medical students′ attitudes towards palliative care are mostly positive but their willingness to involve in palliative voluntary activities is not strong. For school education, interventions require further development to foster better knowledge of palliative care.
