Abstract:
Abstract: Esophageal cancer (EC) is a common and lethal malignant tumour. Traditional treatments include surgical resection, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, however these treatments have limited efficacy and high side effects. With the rapid development of immunotherapy, more and more studies are beginning to explore the potential of radiotherapy combined with immunotherapy in oesophageal cancer. The aim of this review is to summarize the progressions of current research on radiotherapy combined with immunotherapy in oesophageal cancer. Firstly, the synergistic mechanism of radiotherapy combined with immunotherapy for oesophageal cancer is introduced. Secondly, the efficacy and safety of radiotherapy combined with immunotherapy in the treatment of oesophageal cancer are evaluated by reviewing existing clinical trials and prospective studies. Finally, the current problems and challenges of radiotherapy combined with immunotherapy in oesophageal cancer treatment are discussed, and the directions and prospects for future research are proposed. Taken together, these findings suggest that radiotherapy combined with immunotherapy in esophageal cancer has great potential, but further research and clinical validation to prove this works.
